Liverpool Reach Agreement to Sign Saint-Étienne Starlet N’Guessan

Liverpool have reached an agreement with Saint-Étienne to sign highly rated French forward Djylian N’Guessan for a reported €5 million.

The 18-year-old attacker is expected to join the Reds in January 2027 but will spend the remainder of the 2026/27 season on loan at Ligue 1 side Stade Brestois, allowing him to continue his development with regular first-team football.

Liverpool Beat Competition for N’Guessan

Liverpool were not the only English club interested in the young forward, with Arsenal and several other Premier League sides reportedly monitoring his development.

However, the Reds ultimately won the race for N’Guessan’s signature, securing a deal for one of France’s promising young attacking talents.

N’Guessan progressed through Saint-Étienne’s academy before making his senior debut in January 2025 at just 16 years old. He went on to make 13 appearances for the club’s first team, scoring once.

The forward made eight Ligue 1 appearances during Saint-Étienne’s campaign before the club were relegated from France’s top flight.

Impressive Record at Youth Level

N’Guessan has already gained valuable experience on the international stage with France.

He represented the country at the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup, featuring in seven matches as France finished fourth in the tournament.

His performances at youth level have further enhanced his reputation. At the 2025 UEFA European Under-17 Championship, N’Guessan scored four goals and was named in the Team of the Tournament.

Liverpool’s decision to secure his services reflects their continued focus on recruiting highly rated young players with significant development potential.

N’Guessan’s signing comes just after the club secured the signing of 18 year old Belgian goalkeeper, Lucca Brughmans from Belgian Pro League cub, Genk.

The temporary move to Stade Brestois is expected to provide N’Guessan with an important opportunity to gain further experience in Ligue 1 before beginning his Liverpool career.
