Kai Havertz was reportedly sent for an MRI scan on Thursday night after suffering a suspected hamstring injury during Germany’s 1-1 draw with the Netherlands in the UEFA Nations League.
The Arsenal forward was forced off after just 28 minutes in Amsterdam following a heavy challenge from Netherlands midfielder Quinten Timber, with Havertz appearing to be in discomfort before being replaced by Younes Ebnoutalib.
The Nature of the Injury
Havertz appeared to sustain the problem during the first half, adding another concern to an already demanding period for the 2026/27 Premier League champions.
The forward has started all five of Arsenal’s league matches this season and has scored twice. His latest setback now leaves the club waiting for a clearer diagnosis, with the severity of the injury yet to be established.
Havertz was not Germany’s only injury concern, as Jamal Musiala suffered a thigh problem during the warm-up and was withdrawn from the starting XI before kick-off.
Klopp’s Announcement
Germany head coach Jurgen Klopp confirmed after the match that both players would undergo scans, while admitting that they were unlikely to feature again during the international break.
“At the moment both are on the MRI (scans),” Klopp told radio network RTL after his first game in charge of Germany. “I hope we get the diagnosis tonight. But of course that’s not great now. I hope this is just nothing bad. The boys are probably out for us. But hopefully then also relatively quickly available again.”
Germany Denied Victory
Klopp was unable to celebrate victory in his first competitive match as Germany coach after taking over in July.
Felix Nmecha gave Germany the lead in the first half at the Johan Cruyff Arena, but Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo struck in stoppage time to rescue a point for the Netherlands and deny Klopp a winning start.
The result therefore left Germany with a draw from Klopp’s first outing, while the injuries to Havertz and Musiala provided an unwanted dimension to the opening match of his reign.
Another Arsenal Injury Concern
Havertz’s injury adds to a growing list of fitness concerns Arsenal are managing as they attempt to defend their Premier League title.
William Saliba remains sidelined with a back injury and could be unavailable until December, while Cristhian Mosquera has been dealing with a muscle problem. Ben White has also been affected by a groin issue, although his situation is being monitored.
Jurrien Timber has returned to action but continues to be managed carefully after his previous injury problems.
Declan Rice, meanwhile, withdrew from the England squad amid concerns over his physical workload rather than a confirmed significant injury.
With Arsenal already having suffered a 3-0 defeat to Brighton before the international break, Arteta will hope Havertz’s latest setback proves minor as the club prepares for the demanding weeks ahead.
