Garnacho Set for Aston Villa

Alejandro Garnacho is set to join Aston Villa after the club reached an agreement with Chelsea for the Argentine winger.

Nature of the Deal

According to reports, the deal is structured as a loan that will keep Garnacho at Villa Park until the end of the 2026/2027 season.

A buy-out clause has also been included, meaning Villa would be required to pay £42.6 million if they decide to make the transfer permanent.

It is understood that Villa manager Unai Emery is a strong admirer of Garnacho and personally pushed for the deal.

It is believed that the 22-year-old has already completed his medical in Birmingham, signaling that the move is close to being finalized.

Garnacho’s Time at Chelsea

Garnacho joined Chelsea last summer from Manchester United for £40 million. However, he struggled to adapt to life in West London, managing just 8 goals and 4 assists in 43 appearances across all competitions.

His inconsistency ultimately limited his impact within the squad, leading the Blues questioning his reputation at Stamford Bridge.

Is Garnacho the Right Replacement for Rogers at Aston Villa?

Morgan Rogers finished the 2025/2026 season as Aston Villa and Europa League best player while Gernacho flopped.

The move comes after Morgan Rogers departed Villa Park for Stamford Bridge in a British-record £117 million transfer.

While Garnacho is expected to fill the attacking void, the two players differ significantly in style and role.

Rogers, though versatile and capable in wide areas, is naturally a midfielder who often operated from the left half-space rather than the touchline.

In contrast, Garnacho is a natural winger, most effective when positioned wide on either flank, where he can take on defenders and stretch play.

From a statistical standpoint, Garnacho appears to be a downgrade based on last season’s output. Rogers delivered an outstanding campaign, recording 10 goals and 6 assists in the Premier League, alongside 3 goals and 5 assists in the UEFA Europa League. His performances earned him Aston Villa’s Player of the Season award and the Europa League Player of the Season for 2025/2026.

While Garnacho brings pace and directness to Villa’s attack, questions remain over whether he can replicate Rogers’ all-round influence and productivity.

Nonetheless, under Emery’s guidance, Villa will hope the Argentine can rediscover his form and evolve into a key attacking figure for the club.
