Chelsea have reached a verbal agreement with Aston Villa to sign England international Morgan Rogers in what is set to become a record-breaking transfer for the club.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, a £117 million (€137m) bid has been accepted, with personal terms already agreed on a six-year contract running until 2032, including an option for an additional year.
The 23-year-old attacking midfielder is expected in London on Monday to undergo medical tests and complete the formalities of the move.Rogers is understood to have been keen on the switch to Chelsea, attracted by the club’s long-term project under new manager Xabi Alonso.
Despite interest from Arsenal, the midfielder chose Stamford Bridge as his preferred destination. The deal will surpass Chelsea’s previous record signing Enzo Fernandez for £108 million, and also edge past the British transfer record fee set earlier this summer by Man City ‘s signing of Elliot Anderson(£116 million).
The move marks a remarkable rise for Rogers, who joined Aston Villa from Middlesbrough in 2024 and has since developed into one of the Premier League’s standout attacking midfielders. With 31 goals and 29 assists in 125 appearances, and a strong showing in the 2025–26 season, he now heads to Chelsea as a key addition.
He received his first senior England call-up in November 2024 and has featured in all six of his country’s games at the World Cup so far.
