Luka Modrić has signed a contract extension on Thursday to remain at AC Milan until June 2027.
In a club statement, the Croatian captain said:
“I am thrilled to stay at AC Milan, where you made me feel welcomed and loved from the very first day.
After a season below our expectations, the desire to bounce back is immense. A new season and a new challenge await us — a project I believe in and that motivates me.
I am ready to continue to give everything again for this shirt and I am so proud to keep wearing these colours.”
His words thus reflect both commitment and a strong desire to improve on last season’s underwhelming campaign.
Modrić, who will turn 41 in September, joined the Rossoneri on a free transfer in the summer of 2025 after leaving Real Madrid.
In his first season, he made 37 appearances and scored two goals, showing he still has the quality to contribute at the highest level.
Milan confirmed the extension shortly after Modrić returned from his fifth World Cup, where he started all four matches for Croatia and surpassed 200 international caps—a remarkable milestone in international football.
The 2018 Ballon d’Or winner was still on the pitch after 109 minutes when Croatia’s campaign ended in controversy, with a disallowed goal in a 2-1 defeat to Portugal in the round of 32.
Milan finished fifth in Serie A during Modrić’s debut season at San Siro and will now compete in the Europa League under new head coach Rúben Amorim.
