Bukayo Saka expressed mixed emotions after delivering a standout performance in England’s third-place play-off, admitting he “wanted to play more” during the tournament despite ending on a high.
Saka stole the spotlight with a sensational hat-trick in a thrilling 6–4 victory over France, securing the bronze medal for England. The Arsenal winger dazzled in attack, scoring twice in the first half before completing his treble in what turned out to be one of the most entertaining matches of the competition.
Speaking after the match, Saka told the BBC:
“Of course, I would love to have played more. But of course, it’s not the time to talk about that now. I try to do my talking on the pitch. It’s done now. Move on.”
When asked about his form ahead of returning to club football, he added:
“Yeah. I’m fit. I’m fit.”
Despite his heroics, Saka’s tournament involvement raised eyebrows. He made seven appearances overall but started only three matches, coming off the bench four times. Notably, he remained an unused substitute in England’s semi-final defeat to Argentina—a decision that sparked widespread debate.
Head coach Thomas Tuchel continues to face criticism over his tactical decisions and squad selections, particularly the choice to leave Saka out at such a crucial stage.
