Mikel Arteta has committed his long-term future to Arsenal after signing a new contract that will keep him at the club until June 2030, further cementing his position at the centre of the Gunners’ ambitious project.
The Spanish coach had already agreed the terms of his new agreement in late September, with the deal now formally confirmed. The new contract will also see members of Arteta’s coaching staff receive fresh contracts as Arsenal look to maintain continuity within a team that has undergone a remarkable transformation under his leadership.
Arsenal announced the agreement with a statement highlighting the belief that the club’s recent progress represents the beginning of a potentially significant period in its history.
“We are delighted to announce Mikel Arteta has signed a new long-term contract with Arsenal.
The new agreement reflects our shared belief that the progress we’ve made and last season’s success is the beginning of a special period in our history.
Mikel became our seventh title-winning manager last season as we were crowned champions for the 14th time. It was our fourth Premier League title and our first in 22 years.
Together, we remain focused on building on that success, competing for major trophies in a sustainable way and continuing to strengthen the deep bond between the club and our supporters.”
Arteta also expressed his delight at extending his stay, describing the opportunity to continue leading Arsenal as a major privilege.
“It’s a privilege to commit my future to the club and to continue to work with exceptional people who want the best for Arsenal. This club is unique, its character and the way it makes you feel, and I have a great sense of privilege that our journey together will continue.
We have already built a special bond and created memories that will last a lifetime, and what is so exciting is that this is only the beginning of what we can achieve together. I’m extremely grateful to Stan and Josh for their trust and support, and feel honoured to be leading this club through such a special period in its 140-year history.
This is such a proud moment for me and my family. I feel the love and respect from our fantastic supporters, and they have mine – and ours – in return.”
Learning From the Best

Arteta’s development as a coach has been shaped by his experiences working alongside some of the most influential managers of the modern era.
During his playing career, he spent five seasons under Arsène Wenger at Arsenal, where he also served as the Frenchman’s captain. Wenger’s philosophy placed a strong emphasis on possession, technical quality and giving players the freedom to express themselves on the pitch.
Wenger recognised Arteta’s potential beyond his playing career. In 2015, he expressed his hope that Arteta would eventually become a coach, an indication of the qualities he had already identified in the midfielder.
Arteta’s education continued after he joined Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City coaching staff. He spent three and a half years working alongside Guardiola, gaining further exposure to a possession-oriented philosophy built around technical discipline, tactical intelligence and positional play.
Guardiola, like Wenger, also recognised Arteta’s coaching potential. The former Manchester City manager was reported to have said that he learned as much from Arteta as Arteta learned from him during their time together.
Having worked closely with two of football’s most respected tactical minds, Arteta has clearly been influenced by their principles. However, the 44-year-old has also developed an identity of his own, combining possession and technical control with a strong emphasis on defensive organisation.
That balance has been reflected in Arsenal’s defensive record. The club recorded the best defensive record in the Premier League for three consecutive seasons from 2023/24 to 2025/26, while Arsenal conceded only seven goals during their 2025/26 UEFA Champions League campaign.
Five Trophies And Counting

Since being appointed Arsenal head coach in December 2019, replacing Unai Emery, Arteta has overseen 361 matches in all competitions, recording a winning rate of 62.05%.
His trophy cabinet now contains five major honours during his Arsenal tenure: the FA Cup in 2019/20, the FA Community Shield in 2020, the FA Community Shield in 2023, the Premier League title in 2025/26, and the FA Community Shield in 2026.
The 2025/26 Premier League triumph was particularly significant, ending Arsenal’s 22-year wait for an English top-flight championship and making Arteta the club’s seventh title-winning manager.
His achievements have extended beyond domestic competition. Arteta also guided Arsenal to the UEFA Champions League final during the 2025/26 season, further demonstrating the club’s emergence as a serious force in European football.
The new contract until 2030 therefore represents more than simply an extension. It is a declaration of Arsenal’s confidence in Arteta’s methods and leadership, while giving the Spaniard the opportunity to continue building on the foundations established since his arrival.
With domestic success finally achieved and Arsenal competing at the highest level in Europe, the next chapter of the Arteta era will be judged by how much more the club can accomplish. For now, both manager and club appear determined to ensure that the Premier League title was not the conclusion of their project, but the beginning of something even greater.
