Klopp drops Sané from Germany Squad

It is no longer news that Jürgen Klopp was appointed head coach of the Germany national team on 15 August, 2026. A position he is to fill up till 2030, in order to bring about what some has dubbed “the new era of German football.”

And since after taking reins, in typical, decisive Klopp fashion, he has caused something of a scandal in the football world. He has reportedly left out the Galatasaray Istanbul winger Leroy Sané, 30, out of his proposed squad list, which is to be announced on Thursday, 17 September, 2026, per Sport Bild. Apparently, after considering the dispiriting World Cup performance, and the lukewarm start of the season the former Bayern star has had so far (In the five league games for Galatasaray Istanbul, he has neither scored a goal or contrived an assist that led to one!), the ex-Liverpool headman does not see Sané featuring in his plans.

This has been met with relish across the Internet and chatrooms. One commenter on the Subreddit ‘r/soccer’ writes: “Finally, common sense.” Another was even more explicitly sarcastic: “You can drop aging washed up players from the squad? Well then.” These reactions are not at all unfounded—the stats do not speak in Sané’s favour. Although he has made 80 appearances for the national team, and was a frequent starter under the former coach Julian Nagelsmann, his influence had grown thinner and thinner, and was even more thinner in the World Cup during the summer.

Klopp now has to make do with younger, bright stars like the Bayern Munich midfielder Tom Bischof, 21, who, per Florian Plettenberg, is set to receive call up to the National Team under the new command.
