Ajax have reached an agreement to sign Mali international Yves Bissouma as a free agent, with the midfielder now in Amsterdam to complete the final stages of the move.
The 30-year-old is set to sign an initial contract with the Eredivisie club keeping him until the end of the season, with an option included to extend the agreement until June 2027.
Bissouma is currently in Amsterdam and is close to finalising the transfer. The former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder is expected to undergo his medical as Ajax prepare to complete the deal.
The defensive midfielder became a free agent following his release by Tottenham in early June. His departure brought an end to a difficult final season in north London, during which injuries, limited playing time and disciplinary issues restricted his involvement.
Bissouma made just 11 appearances during the 2025/26 campaign, while his relationship with then-manager Thomas Frank was also tested by disciplinary problems.
Frank had previously left the midfielder out of Tottenham’s squad for their UEFA Super Cup fixture in August 2025 after reportedly becoming frustrated by persistent lateness.
Bissouma’s Tottenham Spell
Bissouma joined Tottenham in 2022 after completing a move from Brighton, arriving in north London with a reputation as one of the Premier League’s accomplished defensive midfielders.
Over four seasons with Spurs, the Mali international made 111 appearances for the club across competitions before his contract was terminated and he was released in June.
His move to Ajax now provides Bissouma with an opportunity to revive his career in the Netherlands after a frustrating conclusion to his Tottenham spell.
The Eredivisie club will hope the experienced midfielder can bring greater stability and defensive strength to their midfield, while Bissouma will be looking to regain regular playing time and rebuild his reputation after an increasingly difficult period in England.
