De Zerbi Confirms Richarlison Will Not Play for Tottenham Again This Season

The Brazilian forward will also miss Tottenham’s Carabao Cup clash with Liverpool at Anfield.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Roberto De Zerbi has confirmed that Richarlison will not play for the club again this season, beginning with Tuesday night’s Carabao Cup third-round clash against Liverpool.

The Brazilian forward was left out of Tottenham’s 25-man Premier League squad earlier this month after being informed that he was no longer part of the club’s plans.

However, his continued presence on Tottenham’s books following the closure of multiple transfer windows technically leaves him eligible for domestic cup competitions under English Football League (EFL) regulations.

Despite that, De Zerbi has now confirmed that the former Everton forward will not feature against Liverpool or for Spurs again this season.

Richarlison started Tottenham’s opening Premier League match against Brentford before being told he could leave the club. Attempts to find a new destination ultimately proved unsuccessful, with a proposed return to Everton and a move to Brazilian club Vasco da Gama both collapsing, while interest from Trabzonspor failed to materialise.

On September 11, TS Sports reported that the 29-year-old was exploring legal action to terminate the final nine months of his Tottenham contract.

His absence will be notable at Anfield, particularly given his record against Liverpool since joining Tottenham. Richarlison has scored four goals in seven appearances against the Reds for Spurs.

Other Tottenham Absentees

Richarlison is not the only Tottenham player who will miss the difficult trip to Anfield.

De Zerbi also confirmed that Pedro Porro and Sandro Tonali will be unavailable, while Destiny Udogie has returned to contention and will be available for selection.

Udogie missed Saturday’s goalless draw against Everton after starting Tottenham’s match against Nottingham Forest on September 5.

Tonali, meanwhile, has started all four of Tottenham’s Premier League matches so far this season but was rested for the club’s Carabao Cup second-round victory over Charlton. He will now miss the trip to Liverpool.

Porro was not included in the matchday squad against Everton and remains sidelined.

Tottenham will therefore head to Anfield without several important players, while Richarlison’s continued exclusion adds another chapter to an increasingly uncertain spell between the Brazilian forward and the club.
