Fulham are currently in negotiations to sign Gonzalo García from Real Madrid, as the Premier League side look to reinforce their attacking options ahead of the new season.

The proposed move could see the young striker leave the Santiago Bernabéu in search of more consistent first-team opportunities.

The potential transfer is closely tied to Fulham’s new head coach Álvaro Arbeloa, who is keen on a reunion with the player in West London.

Arbeloa was appointed earlier this month following the departure of Marco Silva. His exit from Madrid came after the club appointed José Mourinho as the new head coach. Arbeloa’s familiarity with García is seen as a key factor driving Fulham’s interest.

Transfer Conditions and Contract Situation

Although García is open to leaving Madrid due to intense competition for places—particularly in attack—any deal remains dependent on Mourinho’s approval.

The 22-year-old still has a long-term contract with Real Madrid running until 2030, meaning the Spanish club retains significant control over his future. Reports suggest that Madrid may include clauses in any deal to maintain influence, such as buy-back options or preferential rights

A graduate of Madrid’s academy, García made his senior debut in November 2023 under Carlo Ancelotti. Since then, he has made 51 appearances, scoring 13 goals and providing seven assists.

One of his standout moments came during Madrid’s run to the semi-finals of the Club World Cup, where he emerged as the tournament’s top scorer, winning the Golden Boot with four goals.

Last season, García scored eight goals in 39 appearances but started only nine La Liga matches, largely due to competition from Kylian Mbappé, who remains the club’s first-choice striker. On the international stage, García has earned one senior cap for Spain, appearing as a substitute in a friendly against Iraq. However, he was not included in Luis de la Fuente’s squad for the recent World Cup.

Fulham’s Current Attacking Woe and Garcia’s Necessity to the Squad

García’s potential arrival comes amid significant changes in Fulham’s attacking department. Veteran striker Raúl Jiménez departed the club after his contract expired, while Rodrigo Muniz endured an injury-hit campaign, missing 20 matches due to muscular issues, including a hamstring problem that required surgery.

In response, Fulham have already taken steps to strengthen their forward line, securing the permanent signing of Swedish striker Jonah Kusi-Asare from Bayern Munich after a successful loan spell at Craven Cottage.

García’s situation reflects a classic case of a talented young player seeking regular playing time to accelerate his development. For Fulham, his arrival could provide a much-needed boost to their attacking options, while also aligning with Arbeloa’s vision for the squad.

However, the final decision rests with Real Madrid and José Mourinho, whose approval remains a key obstacle. Should the deal go through, it would represent a significant opportunity for García to establish himself as a leading striker in the Premier League, while giving Fulham a promising long-term solution in attack.
